COVID-19 – 4 Tips for walking your dog safely

Despite the situation we are currently experiencing, the care of our company animals cannot be forgotten, such as their hygienic walks. Therefore, find out what precautions you should take to walk your dog safely and with protection.

  • Choose walking hours with fewer people on the street.

Some people keep their work schedules and therefore have no choice regarding their pets’ walking hours. For those who are at home, choose to take the tours at times when you know there will be fewer people on the street. This way, you can walk your dog more peacefully.

  • Do not allow your dog to contact with other people or other dogs

What is often a natural petting gesture is not recommended at this time, just like playing with that canine friend you usually meet on walks. The best thing would be to organize games for dogs that can be played at home.

Fortunately, everything says that animals don’t become infected and don’t transmit the disease, however, we should not encourage their contact with the virus. Unlike us, dogs cannot / should not be bathed very often and, therefore, it is important to avoid their contact with people and other dogs outside the household to protect ourselves.

  • Keep your dog on a leash

In a normal situation, you could, in some situations, release your dog, but you should avoid doing it at this time. By walking your dog on a leash, you can better control his contact with other animals and people, which, as we have already mentioned, are situations to avoid.

  • Clean your dog’s paws when you get home

When you return from walking your dog, just as you should take off your shoes when you get home, your dog’s paws should also be cleaned. It is important that you do this at the entrance to your home so that the rest of the house remains a “clean area”. Do not use alcohol, but have a container with soap and water to wash your dog’s paws.

What worries us most about this pandemic is keeping us all safe. If you are infected, have symptoms of COVID-19 or are under surveillance, you should not walk your animal. In this situation, you should contact family or friends who can temporarily stay with your animal. Also find out about support networks that may exist in your area of residence.
